Ensuring our components have a high-quality design is very important to us. Our new Suspended Conveyor System is a further demonstration of how to combine design and functionality in a single product – an achievement that has won us the iF DESIGN AWARD 2024.
The item Suspended Conveyor System is specifically designed for irregularly shaped parts that are ideally hung up to be transported. The system requires no additional energy input, as a minimal incline of just 3° and the force of gravity are sufficient to move the carriages. The entire operation is therefore environmentally friendly and benefits from minimal maintenance requirements.

A unique design for optimized processes
The item Suspended Conveyor System consists of aluminum conveyor rails up to six meters long that can be connected together flexibly. They are easy to shorten and also to combine with other components. An intelligent fastening technique is used to attach the rails to a frame made from our Profile Tube System D30. This creates transport trolleys, frames or racks with integrated suspended conveyor technology.
“Our aim was to create a system that not only boosts efficiency, but is also more convenient to work with and has aesthetic appeal,” explains Markus Völkel, a qualified industrial designer at item. “The rounded contours of the components ensure work is both safe and ergonomic. We also made sure the system has a clear design that is in harmony with the other products in our Building Kit System,” he adds.

More than just a transport system
The possibility of incorporating curves, points and manual release units means the item Suspended Conveyor System can adapt flexibly to specific intralogistics requirements. The universal connection tab on the carriage enables a variety of transport hooks to be used and opens the way for a whole host of potential applications. Elements are designed to meet the highest functional, ergonomic and aesthetic demands. We integrated large radii to make the carriages easy and comfortable to handle, for instance, and the rounded functional and design elements are in perfect harmony with each other. Combining the oval geometry of the stop and release function at the top of the carriage with a semicircular connection tab at the bottom is just one example of the well-thought-out look and functionality.
The design of the components makes it easy to slot the carriages onto the rail. An ergonomically shaped end stop at the removal end of the conveyor rail profile brings carriages to a gentle stop and prevents them from rolling back along the rail. The carriages are then easy to remove, along with the goods being transported. The carriage casing protects the roller elements against any potential damage.

Efficiency and sustainability combined
One of the system’s unique selling points is its efficiency and minimal use of resources. Thanks to carefully considered material selection and a timeless design, our solution is sustainable and also has significant advantages over transport systems using conventional small load carriers (SLCs). For instance, the fact that the item Suspended Conveyor System has a smaller footprint and is more efficient when it comes to returning the carriages means more material can be supplied in less space.
When the system was being developed, particular emphasis was placed on protecting the health of staff. For example, the ability to adapt the working height to the operators using the system means they can adopt an ergonomically beneficial posture. All these aspects ultimately led to us winning the iF DESIGN AWARD 2024, which makes us very proud. We have now received this coveted and prestigious design accolade on more than ten occasions.
